Dr. Tollestrup is an Associate Professor and Director of the Public Health Program. She earned her doctorate in behavioral ecology from the University of California, Berkeley and her MPH in epidemiology from the University of Washington. Dr. Tollestrup has more than 25 years of experience as an epidemiologist and has worked in several different state health departments as well as the Indian Health Service. Her research interests are in the areas of waterbourne disease epidemiology and maternal child health epidemiology, and she has overseen the evaluation of several community-based intervention projects. She is currently is developing a community-based project to address improved educational attainments in teen mothers using peer mentors trained in motivational interviewing.
