Dr. Samuel is a Professor of Psychology in the Department of Family & Community Medicine at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. He is the Clinical Director of Behavioral Health Integration in Primary Care serving University Hospital outpatient clinics and the Education Director for Behavioral Health in the Department of Family & Community Medicine. He received his undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Colorado/Denver and his PhD from the California School of Professional Psychology in 1996. He completed his Pre-Doctoral Internship in the Department of Psychiatry, Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of New Mexico in 1994-95.

Dr. Samuel’s research interests lie in the areas of behavioral health education for Family Medicine residents. He is currently investigating how training in therapeutic communication skills and motivational interviewing are applied in residents’ continuity clinics.

Dr. Samuel’s Certifications and Specialty areas are as follows:

Certification in Clinical Hypnosis Credentialed Balint Group Leader Motivational Interviewing Adolescent and Family Therapy Dr. Samuel practices at the UNM North Valley Clinic and sees patients for treatment of anxiety, depression, non-intervention chronic pain, PTSD, addictions, behavioral change, and somatic disorders. He has a good sense of humor.
